The home of ecology
I'll bet you don't know what it means to throw a plastic bottle in the recycling, check back soon to find out.
You see, being green isn’t nearly as hard or expensive to do as it’s made out to be, as a matter of fact quite the opposite. The first thing you want to do is just plain stop buying so much, whatever your buying now should drop at least 25%, and/or you should try to look for the same things with less packaging. In other words treat your Trash can as a compost bin and try to keep your recycling down. Speaking of compost, you can create a 'compost heap' in your backyard where you can throw vegetables and coffee grounds and such, check it out at http://www.howtocompost.org/
Three things you can do about stuff
1. Reduce, like I said before the less packaging you buy the less you either have to throw away to the land fill or recycle which involves melting of whatever material it may be, glass, plastic, metal, aluminum. They all have to melted down and treated like new material.
2. Reuse, you'd be surprised at what you can find at a thrift store. There are much better deals on like new things like cars and clothes and such then you'd find anywhere else. Also it's all local, so that means no gas for transportation, no money going to a company you don't like and no new materials.
3. Recycle, when you do throw stuff away though, make sure that what you throw away you throw in the recycling bin. Most of what you would throw away could be recycled. if it can't be directly recycled there's likely someone (i.e. whole foods will recycle cell phones)
Transportation; basic reminders
1. Join a car pool.
2. Ride a bike.
3. Walk.
4. Use public transportation.
If your only choice is driving and you want a new car then again, either craigslist or Aptera. Aptera is a little company I haven't mentioned before, but if there's anyone I would lay my trust in for a truly ecological car it would be them. But on the cheap, a used Honda Civic, Toyota Tacoma, Suzuki Samurai, Handa CRX and similar cars are not only good, long lasting cars but also good donor cars for someone looking to make an electric vehicle.
